On a PCB panel, there will be v-cut, routing with some tabs or routing and v-cut to connect the small PCBs. Today Linked Electronics, the PCB manufacture in China, will discuss how the v-cut works on printed circuits.
PCB v-cut , it is also called as v-grooving or v-scoring. V-scoring is way to split circuit boards. It is cutting a "v" groove into the top and bottom of a PCB board and it leaves a minimum amount of material in place to hold the boards together.Unlike the routing of the PCB panels, he spacing between boards is 0mm by v-cut.
Generally, the v-scoring depth is 1/3 from the top and 1/3 from the bottom, and remaining thickness will be 1/3.The v-cut does not go straight into the board, there will be some angle, always that is 45 degrees. See below pictures. So please leave at least 10mil space between the copper and v-cut or the copper will be rolled up and copper exposure issue near the v-cut line.
For small sized PCB, if we v-cut too deep into the PCB boards, it will break off during manufacturing. If the v-cut is not deep enough, you will have some difficulty in separating the PCBs. This is really hard to control. To prevent the difficulty in separating the PCBs on a panel, we advise you use PCB distributor for large volume PCBs or change the way to panelized the PCBs, always by routing with tabs or routing with stamp vias.
Linked Electronics uses all numerical v-cut machine for the v-scoring of the PCBs which can fully guarantee the quality of the v-cut on the PCBs. And if you have any PCB questions, contact our team, we are happy to provide you any assistance regarding your PCB request.
