FPC produced by Linked Electronics Co., Limited is different from traditional FR4 PCB board, which has its unique advantages, such as flexible shape and forms, light than FR4 PCBs, smaller size and longer durability. FPC, flexible printed circuit, is widely used on consumer products, smart phones, tablets PCB and some medical products.

What does a FPC compose of

FPC is compose of( PI/PET), Cu, Adhesive, coverlay and stiffener.

1.Copper

For the material copper of FPC, there is RA copper( Rolled Anneal Copper Foil) and Electrode-posited Copper Foil. RA copper is more flexible in shapes and forms, that is too say, most FPC made by Linked Electronics use RA copper. Copper thickness for RA copper is 1/3 OZ, 1/2OZ, 1OZ, and 2OZ.

2.Substrate for FPC( Flexible printed circuit board)

There are two material PI and PET. PI is more expensive but has higher flame resistance than PET. If the FPC has solder requirement, PI is the best option. Thickness for the Substrate of FPC by Linked Electronics is 1/2mil, 1mil and 2mil.

3.Adhesive

There are also two adhesive for FPC at Linked Electronic, the one stop PCB solution provider,

Acrylic and Expoxy. Epoxy is most frequently used on flexible circuit board. Thickness for adhesive on FPC is 0.4~2mil, and generally, Linked Electronics used 0.72mil epoxy for FPC production

4.Coverlay

Coverlay is composed of substrate and adhesive, thickness ranges from 0.5~1.4mil.

5.Stiffener

If some area of the FPC needs to be install by some components, the function of stiffener will make it easier to solder the parts.

Stiffener material: PI/PET/FR4/SUS

There are two method to add stiffener on the FPC, PSA( Pressure Sensitive Adhesive) or 3M

FPC prototyping is different from FR4 PCB fabrication, and most factories in China do not have the capabilities to make the FPC. At Linked Electronics, we can produce FPC from 1~8 layers, thickness is 0.06~0.4mm, minim traces width and space 2/2mil for 1~2 layer and 3/3 for multilayer FPC, copper weight 0.33~2oz.
